Guardian angels…

This picture is over fifty years old. It was hanging in the hallway of the house I grew up in. I have since matted and framed it...and treasure it still.

This picture is older than I am. It was hanging in the hallway of the house I grew up in. I have since matted and framed it...and treasure it still.

Angels exist.  They truly do.  I’ve known, on more than one occasion, that my guardian angel intervened to keep me from harm.  No doubt, yours has as well.

I just read a blog piece by my beautiful great-niece, Sarah.  In many ways, she reminds me of myself at that age (sorry, Sarah).  She has a deep faith and a maturity beyond her years.  In a lot of ways, she also reminds me of Katie.  I look forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for Sarah’s life.

The truth is:  Sarah escaped great harm or worse last night.  I thank God that her guardian angels were there, and that she is safe and well.  Of course, the mother and great-aunt in me would like to fly cross-country and see for myself.  While I was there, I would do a complete safety check on the house…install new locks and safety bolts…have a few escape drills for her and her roommates - who to call first, where to go first, etc.   I know.  I’ve been watching the mystery channel too much, but I’ve learned a lot.  No doubt, her parents will take care of these details anyway without Great-Aunt Dianne’s help!

If you haven’t read Psalm 91 lately, it’s a treasure you don’t want to miss.  Go brew yourself a cup of hot tea or coffee.  Sit down and read.  Read it aloud.  Hear yourself say these wonderful words…the whole chapter.  It’s all about the SECURITY we have through TRUSTING in the Lord.

That’s what Sarah did last night… she trusted.

Psalm 91

 1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
       will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
       my God, in whom I trust.”

 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
       and from the deadly pestilence.

 4 He will cover you with his feathers,
       and under his wings you will find refuge;
       his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

 5 You will not fear the terror of night,
       nor the arrow that flies by day,

 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
       nor the plague that destroys at midday.

 7 A thousand may fall at your side,
       ten thousand at your right hand,
       but it will not come near you.

 8 You will only observe with your eyes
       and see the punishment of the wicked.

 9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
       even the LORD, who is my refuge-

 10 then no harm will befall you,
       no disaster will come near your tent.

 11 For he will command his angels concerning you
       to guard you in all your ways;

 12 they will lift you up in their hands,
       so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

 13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
       you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
       I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

 15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
       I will be with him in trouble,
       I will deliver him and honor him.

 16 With long life will I satisfy him
       and show him my salvation.”

    Dianne,

    Beautifully written! I cannot begin to tell you the absolute fear I felt when I heard of Sarah’s night. I could only imagine what SHE must have felt like sitting against that door waiting for the police to arrive. There is NO doubt in my mind that God had surrounded her with angels to guard over her and keep her safe. In the mean time, you can know what this Momma Bear did … I was on the phone with property manager having locks changed ASAP, maintenance going over the condo with a fine tooth comb, the police, school officials, etc. Many lessons were learned through this event … no doubt, a terrible way to have to learn a lesson.
    Anyway, thank you for encouraging her on sooooooo many levels. She is a sponge and SOAKS it all up!

    I love you and miss you!

  • Hi, Leigh…

    You already know what a one-in-a-million sweet treasure Sarah is. I laugh every time I remember her as a little girl in her Batman cape. I also remember a car full of Southern Belles driving to the jewelry supply store. As we stopped for a red light, I handed a homeless person some money out the car window…and SARAH (as a very young teen) said, “here, Aunt Dianne, give him my money too”. Oh, my goodness.

    Love and miss you,
    Dianne
